Working Class Hero - John Lennon
My favorite piece of history about John Lennon... When he released these songs the fact that he used a 4 letter word was printed in newspapers everywhere. 'Lennon in a 4 word row' etc. Well, when he released the album the producers had the issue of printing the lyrics. They didn't want to print them with that 4 letter word flowing around, especially in this song. At first they were going to bleep out the word in the songs, but Lennon himself came up with the solution. When you read the original vinal cover with the lyrics you'll find this sight 'till you're so * crazy you can't follow their rules.' At the bottom of the cover he insisted that they put this '* word omitted by E.M.I.' He said once "It's just the way I f***ing talk you know" when asked about his 4 letter wordings.
People will blame the Beattles breaking up because of Yoko, but you'll find some of Lennon's most heart felt lyrics came because of his relationship and marriage with her. He said "I don't want to be staging it singing 'Hold me Tight' when I'm 30 years old. Well, his 30th birthday came around and he was still producing records. He left not only for Yoko, there were many reasons, and some of them were simply excuses because he was tired. No one can blame him for that. He had a fantastic run!
