Joss Stone

I have never EVER seen Joss Stone perform on a stage with shoes on. I love it! She truly is one of my absolute favorite music artists. When she sings she feels the music, so it is rare that you will ever hear that song performed live twice in the same way. I can't express just how much I love her music! She is my age, so I find I am able to really connect with her lyrics. Also, I absolutely love her hair! She was 16 when she dyed her hair pink. Her record label flipped! She said she was going to do things her way. That she needed to let go and record the way she wanted. If she couldn't do it, she would settle and do their way. You hear that all through the lyrics of her second CD. She has said everything I have ever wanted to, but have been too afraid... How people can go without feeling her music... I will never understand! Some of These are Cover songs... but enjoy them. Her voice is a one of a kind!

6,757,060,405

There are 6,757,060,405 different ways to look at something. There are 6,757,060,405 different people in the world. One perspective for each person, and each as different as their finger prints. So, how is it there are so many songs with the same title? Well, no song is exactly the same, even if you're doing a cover. There will be slight changes to anything you replicate. Each 'satellite' is very different from the other. Jewel for example, wrote her song entitled 'satellite' about the first time she went to Hollywood. She'll even say that just about everyt time she performs the song live. I think it says it in the youtube video I have on here. Anna Nalick's satellite is a personal experience, Beyonce references a different life experience, feeling... I think you get the picture. Even with 6,757,060,405 different ways to see the same thing, we find we are able to agree on one thing. Music is universal. If there is one thing I've seen in my 20 years, it's music speaks to everyone. Race, gender, age... they don't matter. An entire group of people gather together, dance, scream, throw one another to the same song and hear something entirely different from the person standing next to them. How wonderous is this world in which we live, create, and try to function from day to day in... Welcome to the 'New Wild West'...Satellite - Anna Nalick
Satellite - Jewel

Satellite - Guster

Satellites - Beyonce

Building My Caslte In The Air...

When your debut single is number one in seven different countries and your album goes on to sell more than 700,000 copies, you get to choose where you record the follow-up. And having made her first album on a miniscule budget in a freezing barn in Cheshire, you might think Sandi Thom would want to go a bit more upmarket this time. But Sandi tends to do things her own way, no matter how unconventional that may be. Which is why she recorded the whole of her second album, ‘The Pink & The Lily’ in the basement of her flat in Tooting.
What If I'm Right - Sandi Thom
When Horse Power Meant What It Said - Sandi Thom
Under The Sun - Sandi Thom

The Pink & The Lily - Sandi Thom

May You Never - Sandi Thom

Mirrors - Sandi Thom

These are a few of her songs. She has 2 albums: Smile... It Confuses People, and The Pink & The Lily.

Working Class Hero...

Working Class Hero - John Lennon

My favorite piece of history about John Lennon... When he released these songs the fact that he used a 4 letter word was printed in newspapers everywhere. 'Lennon in a 4 word row' etc. Well, when he released the album the producers had the issue of printing the lyrics. They didn't want to print them with that 4 letter word flowing around, especially in this song. At first they were going to bleep out the word in the songs, but Lennon himself came up with the solution. When you read the original vinal cover with the lyrics you'll find this sight 'till you're so * crazy you can't follow their rules.' At the bottom of the cover he insisted that they put this '* word omitted by E.M.I.' He said once "It's just the way I f***ing talk you know" when asked about his 4 letter wordings.

People will blame the Beattles breaking up because of Yoko, but you'll find some of Lennon's most heart felt lyrics came because of his relationship and marriage with her. He said "I don't want to be staging it singing 'Hold me Tight' when I'm 30 years old. Well, his 30th birthday came around and he was still producing records. He left not only for Yoko, there were many reasons, and some of them were simply excuses because he was tired. No one can blame him for that. He had a fantastic run!

I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker...

I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) - Sandi Thom

I love this piece of art simply because she tells it as it is. Listen to her lyrics, and then go to youtube and watch her official music video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyapY97ugNk

History: In every song is a story, a biography for the times in which the song was written. In the years between 1960 and 1977 the united States was in the middle of a new age revolution. The people of America were in the middle of the Women's Liberation front, The apartheid, President Nixon, and of course the Vietnam War. The music of the era, in any genre will tell you anything and everything you could ever want to know about that history. From a personal and professional level. For the 1960-1070's it's most likely to be the drugs, "free-loving," and the fight for peace and unity.

Side Note: In the years 1969-1977 the top 10 American Punk albums/artists were:
1. The Velvet Underground & Nico by Velvet Underground
2. Back in the USA by MC5
3. Fun House by Iggy & The Stooges
4. New York Dolls by New York Dolls
5. Go Girl Crazy! by Dictators
6. Ramones Mania by Ramones
7. Marquee Moon by Television
8. Blank Generation by Hell, Richard
9. So Alone by Thunders, Johnny
10. Young Loud and Snotty by Dead Boys

Artist History: Alexandria "Sandi" Thom (born 11 August 1981) is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Macduff in Aberdeenshire. She first became famous after being controversially promoted as an unknown webcasting gigs from her basement flat in Tooting.

Christian Hans Sorensen

I met Chris in middle school right after I moved to South Jordan. We were both in advanced orchestra with Mr. Misco 3rd period, portable 5. We didn't really ever talk much until our Senior year of high school. We were dating each others best friends. Both of them were always doing something, dance, debate, etc. So, Chris and I would talk and walk while we waited for them to finish whatever it was they were doing. We wound up getting pretty close, and we've maintained that close contact. He is serving an LDS mission in Russia, and is have the time of his life. He misses everyone here, but couldn't imagine being any where else at this time in his life. He's met some amazing people and has grown up so much! I've always labeled Chris as the twinbrotherIneverwantedbutloveanyway. He has always taken care of me like a brother, and we seem to be the same person only different genders, so the title works well. I can't wait to see him this summer when he comes home!

The reason behind my dedicating this blog post to him, is I am personally havinge a rough time. I've let go of someone who was extremely close to me. I am having more medical issues, and no one can tell me what is going on, or why I have so much physical pain still. My family is getting ready for a vacation and that's taken a lot out of me. It's that old saying, when it rains it pours... Well, Chris writes me an email every week and he always knows just what to say. I guess it comes from the old days when we'd go on walks at 2am and talk everything out, and no matter the temperature we'd always end up laying under this street lamp in his neighborhood across the street from the big red brick house, playing music from his phone and he'd tell me stories of his childhood play days. The adventures, and the buried treasure he'd love to dig up from the backyard of that house. These songs will forever remind me of Chris, and the friendship we have.Lean On Me - Bill Withers

Stand By Me - Ben E. King

My Girl - The Temptations

Chris isn't known for being musically cultured, he'd always play Hands Open by the Snow Patrol, but he'd quote these songs and not know what on earth he was saying. It always made me laugh. Needless to say, I'm having an 'I Miss Chris' day... I can't wait until we're really related. Then my twinbrotherIneverwantedbutloveanyway, will be my cousin... Hahaha! Oh the oddities of the world!

Life Through Lyrics

I live through music. My dad has always surrounded his kids with music, and a love for it. I used to fall asleep every night listening to him playing his guitar in his office/studio room down the hall from my bedroom in our tiny house. Now I listen to him play in the recording studio we built in the basement of our current house. I learned at a young age it's okay to tinker with sounds, and rhythms. I taught myself to play the piano, guitar, and the viola. I've now been able to branch out and learn the violin and the cello. I am currently attempting the drums, harp, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Simply put I love music.
Each day I awake with a song stuck in my head and that will set the tone or 'theme' of my day. I have a musical knowledge that I don't quite know what to do with, so I am going to share it with the internet. Learn, enjoy, and maybe broaden your musical horizons!
Much Love,
Jessica Meredith Gustafson
