I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) - Sandi Thom
I love this piece of art simply because she tells it as it is. Listen to her lyrics, and then go to youtube and watch her official music video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyapY97ugNk
History: In every song is a story, a biography for the times in which the song was written. In the years between 1960 and 1977 the united States was in the middle of a new age revolution. The people of America were in the middle of the Women's Liberation front, The apartheid, President Nixon, and of course the Vietnam War. The music of the era, in any genre will tell you anything and everything you could ever want to know about that history. From a personal and professional level. For the 1960-1070's it's most likely to be the drugs, "free-loving," and the fight for peace and unity.
Side Note: In the years 1969-1977 the top 10 American Punk albums/artists were:
1. The Velvet Underground & Nico by Velvet Underground
2. Back in the USA by MC5
3. Fun House by Iggy & The Stooges
4. New York Dolls by New York Dolls
5. Go Girl Crazy! by Dictators
6. Ramones Mania by Ramones
7. Marquee Moon by Television
8. Blank Generation by Hell, Richard
9. So Alone by Thunders, Johnny
10. Young Loud and Snotty by Dead Boys
